Sportsmen Cabin is a new (in about 2008) large cabin on Distin Lake. It has great afternoon sun on the beach and a trail to Distin Lake Cabin which is .7 miles away. Distin Cabin is small built for two people. Distin cabin is no longer maintained but was still usable in 2012, good place for the kids to stay. The Sportsmen is the cabin of choice on this lake. The beach has a good slope to tie up your plane. I spent a night here with about 15 knots of wind and all was okay.  In August of 2010 we went swimming in the lake and the water temperature was great. In 2011 the cabin was hit hard by a large tree and I was worried it would not be rebuilt. The Admiralty Island Forest Service is by far the best Forest Service district in the Tongass. They are redoing most of their cabins and they are always beautiful. When I arrived there in July of 2012 there was a crew of ten putting the cabin back together.
