Marten Lake Cabin

This cabin is on the short list to be removed, use it or we will all lose it.

Some of my best memories of Alaska are when you confront situations you have never seen before. Marten Lake seemed like a nice place, the lake was beautiful surrounded by tall mountains on all sides. We did not like the fact we had to tie up the plane 500 feet away because the water in front of the cabin was only a few inches deep. My buddy Lon said if the water was just a little deeper this place would be great. That’s when it started to rain for three days straight. When you look at the topo map we were at the small end of a really big funnel. The picture above shows how it was before the rain, the plane is tied up in a nice place and we are sitting on the deck having a Crown Royal. The rest of the story is in the pictures. This is still a great little cabin. When you make the reservation do not confuse with Martin Lake which is a great cabin in the Copper River Delta area.

Note the cables, in a big rain storm this cabin can flood.

We were there when the Lake went up 3 feet over night.

The rain just kept cooking.

Water up to within 6 inches of the floor.
