Checats Lake Cabin

I was there in 2012 and found the cabin to be in reasonable shape with a supply of wood. Because of the land formations and the location of the cabin, there are many scenic and wildlife photo opportunities. Fishing is rated as very good for rainbow trout up to 24" (60 cm). Hunting for mountain goat, Sitka blacktail deer, black bear, and brown bear all occur in this area. When I have been there the tie up seems to be ok. There is a slight current going out of the lake and the logs seem to stay against the bank. The wind is from the west so this should be a protected tie up. If the wind reversed it could get a little dicey.

The Checats Lake trail is 1.1 miles long. It begins at Checats Cove and ends at Lower Checats Lake. The trail follows Checats Creek and lead through an old-growth forest of hemlock, spruce, and cedar. At about .75 mile there are a few short stretches of steep slope with the rest of the trail maintaining a fairly level grade. The trail is comprised of natural tread with brief intervals of rustic boardwalk or bridges. Due to windstorms the trail is not passable until further notice.
